Our Story: Embracing Our Rogue

At Rogue Brownies, we pour our hearts into everything we do, and that includes how we talk to you. The only raw thing you'll find coming out of Rogue is Jenny and me. We believe in being real – sharing our journey openly, challenges and all. When it comes to our brownies, however, expect nothing but small-batch, handcrafted perfection. We're committed to real connection and exceptionally baked treats.

From our kitchen to yours, with love and a touch of rebellion,

Why Rogue?

Jenny and her kids

Let's be real: Rogue Brownies wasn't born from some Instagrammable dream. Its heart started beating out of pure, fierce mother-love and a terrifying reality. Back in 2019, my sister Jenny, a single mom to four, was staring down an impossible choice. Her son, Maxwell, lives with Coffin-Siris syndrome – that means daily seizures, he's nearly blind and deaf, and barely walks.

Then there's her daughter, whose own mobility is becoming a painful question mark s they go to weekly dr. appointments to try to find out what is causing her so much pain and weakness.

A 'standard job'? That was never going to happen because Maxwell couldn't tell anyone what he needed; Jenny had to be his voice, his hands, his constant watch.

So, what do you do when the world isn't built for your reality? You build your own. That’s what Jenny did. She took our family's brownie recipe, not just to bake, but to fight – to carve out a future for her kids, on her own damn terms. That fight, that necessity? That was the raw beginning of Rogue Brownies.

Why Gold?

That touch of edible gold on some of our brownies? It’s pure, defiant joy. It began with Jenny's powerful decision to reject the idea that self-worth is something you only 'earn' after endless sacrifice. For her, gold became a symbol of unapologetic joy, a treat deserved simply because.

Life has certainly thrown its share of curveballs our way. While navigating the incredible demands of being a single mom to four amazing kids with unique needs and serving her community, Jenny incredibly earned both her Bachelor’s and her MBA. Her relentless strength isn't just inspiring; it's the bedrock of Rogue Brownies.

Then, in early 2024, I officially joined forces with her. That’s when we took Rogue Brownies from a heartfelt cottage food dream to the 'Made in Montana' certified commercial bakery we are today, ready to share that spirit.

Why Now?

Jenny and Karyl First Day in the Kitchen

My own path has had its share of detours. For years, chronic migraines and my role as a stay-at-home mom made traditional work a tough fit. I knew I had to forge a new way. That led me back to school, where I traded psychology for an unexpected love: business.

This new direction brought a pivotal opportunity with a BYU-Idaho intern team. Having watched my sister Jenny and our mom create magic with our family's brownie recipe for years, I saw a spark. This internship was it – the chance to help Jenny take her heartfelt cottage food operation to a commercial reality.

I submitted her passion project, and those incredible students helped us lay the groundwork for Rogue Brownies. Now, building this 'Made in Montana' business with Jenny is a privilege, as is championing her dream to help other moms find their own confident, 'rogue' way forward.
